Shrek 5 is upcoming in the work project confirmed by NBCUniversal and Dreamworks, but we may have to wait a little bit longer before it comes to the cinema.
Shrek 5 already has it’s own IMDB page, which definitely means it will happen sooner or later and it’s rumored we could get a teaser or news this summer.
NBCUniversal bought Dreamworks and it seems they have decided to revive the “Shrek” movie for a fifth installment of the movie. I mean isn’t that the best news you have heard in a while?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, there are numerous cited sources stating that the fifth film was originally planned for a 2019 release and Eddie Murphy also confirmed that the movie was expected to be released in late 2019 or early 2020 and that the script for the film had been completed.
The story for Shrek 5 was written by Michael McCullers who based on his own idea, with an intention to reinvent the series.
Unfortunately, we have to wait longer die to the global Covid pandemic ceasing all work and production for now.
Recently, Shrek 5 production team took to Twitter to confirm that the film would be postponed till 2021 because of the pandemic around the world.
However, it was debunked that the tweet was indeed a fake one as expected.
Shrek films in Order
There are four Shrek movies in the franchise such as-
- Shrek (2001)
- Shrek 2 (2004)
- Shrek The Third (2007)
- Shrek: Forever After – The Final Chapter (2010)
This new installment will be the fifth movie fro the franchise.
Shrek 5 cast
The main idea for the fifth installment was to bring back the original voice cast, but with the change of story so we can still expect Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Antonio Banderas.
The movie’s theme
With the new production head, we can see some changes in the styles and the way the fifth installment is headed towards.
It may assume a modern “Shrek” movie and maybe, Shrek and Fiona’s family will move to the city? Who knows?
McCullers, the new writer, is not the only person in charge of the production team who is new. New individuals are assigned to be in charge of the whole production of “Shrek 5.” by the name of Chris Melendandri as the head for this film.
So, the theme of the movie can go anywhere. If they indeed opt to go for a modern theme shrek, it can be interesting but still nostalgia will hit hard for some.
In any case, “Shrek 5” isn’t filming yet. However If they can start this year, maybe there is a chance for it to premiere in and around middle or late 2022.
As of right now, we have no release date, cast or plots. Make sure to Stay tuned to Wallinsider to get the latest updates on the Shrek 5.
