How to Setup Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA Setup) on Microsoft?

There are three different authentication options available for Multifactor Authentication.

  • SMS Message: You will be sent a text SMS message with a verification code and when you try a sign-in, you will be prompted to enter the code. Enter the verification code sent on the SMS and log-in.
  • Phone: Multi-Factor Authentication By Phone call.
  • Mobile Application Push: A pop-up notification to the authenticator app on your tablet or smartphone to either approve or reject.
  • Mobile Application OAUTH: The MS authenticator app will create a 6-digit verification code that will update with a new code every 30 seconds. This is essential and helpful in situations where you may be in an area with bad cell coverage and you need to log in.

How to Set up aka.ms MFASetup for SMS

You can set up the multi-factor authentication for your account to receive SMS messages to authenticate and login to your account.

  • Visit https://aka.ms/mfasetup on your browser.
  • Next, Sign in to your account.
  • Tap < Profile picture < Name.
  • Select “Edit Security Info“ < “Phone.”
  • Input the phone number that you have access to.
  • Next, click on “Text me a code” < “Next.”
  • Microsoft will then send you an SMS message with an authentication code for the first time.
  • Next, Enter the code.

If you turn this option on, the next time and whenever you try to sign in to your account on Microsoft, an authentication code will be sent to your SMS which you will need to enter to log into your account.

How to Setup Multi-factor Authentication [MFA Setup] for Phone Call

Another option is to receive the authentication factor through a phone call.

  • Visit your profile picture and tap on it.
  • Locate the edit security info.
  • Click on “Phone.”
  • Set up your phone number and click on the “Next” button.
  • Microsoft will call on the phone number you entered.
  • You just need to press the “#” button to authorize the login.

Multi-Factor Authentication Through Mobile App Push/OAUTH

  • Select Mobile App from the drop-down menu.
  • Next, click on Receive notifications for verification
  • Tap on the Set Up button.
  • Next, Download the Microsoft Authenticator application on your smartphone either via the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android) depending on your device OS.
  • Once installed, Launch the Microsoft Authenticator app on your smartphone.
  • Tap on the + sign to add an account and click on the “Work or School Account.”
  • The Microsoft Authenticator application will then open your smartphone camera.
  • Simply scan the QR Code displayed on the page on your computer screen.
  • This will connect and sets up the device for the Mobile App OAUTH.

Reset https://aka.ms/mfaSetup After you Changed Your Device

You can reset your info to receive your MFA verification code if your phone either got lost or you have changed your phone.

This process mainly works for Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Azure, and Office 365.

  • Sign in to the cloud service via the admin login credentials.
  • Next, Open a new tab on your browser and head to https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/usermanagement/multifactorverification.aspx.
  • Tick the box beside the admin MFA that you want to reset
  • Click on “Manage user settings.”
  • Tap on the user name which device is changed and simply enter the new phone information.
  • Once entered, select the “Save” button.

Now, Microsoft will send the verification code to your new phone.

I don’t receive a text or voice call for Azure Multi-Factor Authentication

After you have successfully configured the multi-factor authentication for your Microsoft office 365 or Microsoft Azure and even so if you didn’t receive any verification code.

We recommend you to change the means of verification to another option. If you are using a call option before then you can change to a text message.

However, if you are blocked on your Microsoft Azure account, follow the below steps to unblock yourself to be able to receive your verification code.
